Case Study - Bounce Hire
Ever been forced to buy an entire drill just to hang one shelf? That’s the over consumption problem that Bounce Hire’s Emma Bugg is trying to solve!
Emma understands the benefit of the sharing economy, having hired out her under-used campervan through Camplify in the past. She could clearly see the advantage not only to herself as an item owner, but to the hirer who borrowed her camper, and she started to wonder what else she could lend. Through creating a hiring platform, Emma realised she could solve multiple problems at once - storage issues for people with a lot of belongings, the lack of sustainability around buying single use items, access to equipment for travelers, and of course the environmental concerns of all that stuff. And so, Bounce Hire was born!
“Many households own a drill, and while some are used until their dying day, the average lifetime use of a drill is just 13 minutes. For millennials, home renovators, renters and travellers Bounce Hire is a website that connects item owners of under-utilised household items to people who will pay money to hire them.”
Through the Born Global Incubator, Emma has gained skills such as public speaking through practicing her pitch, and how to think critically about her ideas and test her assumptions to come up with the best possible end product. She says she’s always been a visionary, with many ideas never making it “off the napkin” and into real life, but now she has the structure and skills to approach the next steps.
“It’s been an excellent experience to go through at this particular time, with the huge global pivot (of COVID-19)we’ve all been faced with. We've had access to first class professionals and educators who have given us the tools to shape our concepts.”
