Case Study - Landex
In his day job as a contractor, Bevan Crofts kept encountering everyday people who were driven to their wits’ end by the challenges they faced getting planning approval. Even small and seemingly simple projects can face unexpected delays and risks, and it can take several months to several years to get to the point where you can even start digging foundations.
Identifying the complexity, uncertainty, and costs associated with this process as a big problem in his industry, Bevan created LANDEX. “We’re working to slash the cost and waiting time for Australians to get planning approvals by automating and streamlining parts of the process, so they can start building sooner.”
He explains that he came to the Born Global Incubator because he realised that he had some potentially exciting ideas, but didn’t have the skills to bring them to fruition. Having previously undertaken a Business Degree, he has been surprised that all of the content of the Incubator is new, having not been covered in his University learnings.
“It’s about recognising that there are no actual facts in the building, and customers won’t just buy it because we think it’s a good idea. Honestly I think everyone in business should be exposed to these ideas!”.
Bevan is looking forward to the next few months when he plans to pitch to software designers and programmers with startup experience in Tasmania to work together on the next stage of LANDEX launch.
